Renewable Programs: Wind

Wind Energy Market Overview

Wind energy, which is generated by the rotation of wind turbines, is the second largest renewable energy source in the world. According to Clean Edge, an industry research firm, wind energy had a market value of $17 billion in 2006 and is projected to grow to $60.8 billion by 2016.

In 2006, wind energy generated approximately 2,500 megawatts of electricity. In the United States, more than two dozen wind farms were built, an annual number that is expected to increase as Renewable Portfolio Standards, Renewable Energy Credit trading and other private and public-sector clean energy initiatives develop.

Wind energy provides income to farmers and jobs to rural communities and is cost-competitive with fossil fuels. Its intermittency is managed by utility grid operators that balance supply and demand across their energy portfolios.

Wind Energy Project Financing Options

MMA Renewable Ventures offers flexible wind energy financing options to address the needs of community, regional, national and international developers. For wind energy project developers that seek financing throughout the project lifecycle, our financing options can be combined.

  • Development Capital —Designed as a partnering approach between MMA Renewable Ventures and project developers that focuses on achieving specific development milestones over a one-to-three year period. This can include co-funding project studies, financial analyses and negotiations with utilities in return for an equity or debt stake in the underlying project or portfolio of projects.
  • 100% Financing —Designed as ‘one-stop shop’ financing for community or regional project developers that seek 100 percent financing for turbine deposits, turbine milestone payments, construction and long-term project finance. MMA Renewable Ventures will contribute 100 percent of the required project capital and provide the required completion guaranties.
  • Equity Placement —Designed for developers that need to raise project capital and are able to take advantage of wind energy project tax benefits. MMA Renewable Ventures will contribute up to 100 percent of the equity required for wind projects.
  • Project Acquisition —Designed for developers that want to monetize their position in a project during the development lifecycle. MMA Renewable Ventures will acquire projects in the early development lifecycle phase and in later phases.

Depending on project and financing needs, MMA Renewable Ventures can customize solutions for our customers based on their specific requirements.
